'Starship Trooper Redux'

acrylic on panel

18"x18"

2015

A memento mori for our primate brothers and sisters. In the early years of the Space Race, before any human testing, many animals were launched into space including non-human primates beginning with a rhesus monkey in 1948. ‘Starship Trooper Redux’ is a tribute to those animals blasted into the void before we were brave enough to strap in ourselves. It is based on a sculptural work made with a real baboon skull and vintage Soviet space helmet, which in turn is based on another painting titled ‘Starship Trooper” from 2010.

Exhibited at the Scope Art Show with Gauntlet Gallery as part of Art Basel Miami in December 2015.
